Harris Wright

I make my art through a comedic lens. After a period of time where I took myself and everything around me just too seriously, a good friend and fellow artist of mine decided that we would only make funny art. I often think about this pact while planning and making my work. Even when I try to express subjects I find to be more confusing and difficult, I strive to make some major aspect of the piece absurd to the point of funny. I use a variety of mediums to express my ideas, and I have a last-book-I-read-was-my-favorite-like syndrome when it comes to which medium I favor most. I see a lot of my work as self portraits.

Grass Is Greener (series)

Pen and ink, 2020

The grass is greener on the other side. What I have done was greater or will be greater than what I’m doing. I will have more fun tomorrow. Memories were sweeter last time around. This view and this place must have a rival, one that is probably more beautiful. Last time we met we had more fun. Next time we meet it will be the best thing that will ever happen. In this series, the bugs you're seeing are locusts. No matter what the figure is doing--relaxing, in pain, excited, bored-- she is always in search of the next greenest and greatest feeling.
